Where should grab bars go?
It depends on how the bathroom is used, so the first visit starts with a walk-through of how you get in and out of the shower and up from the toilet. The usual spots:
- Inside the shower or tub, on the wall you lean toward when you step in
- A vertical bar at the shower or tub entry, to hold while stepping over the edge
- Beside the toilet, on the side wall
- Near the bathroom door, where there is nothing else to hold
Most bars go between 33 and 36 inches above the floor, the height the ADA guidelines use. The right height for you can differ, so Ramzi checks it with you before drilling.
How is a grab bar installed so it holds?
Every bar is fastened into a stud, into wood blocking behind the wall, or with anchors made for grab bars. Tile is drilled with a tile bit so it doesn’t crack, and every screw is sealed so water can’t get behind the tile.
A bar that spins or flexes is worse than no bar, so each one is pulled on hard before Ramzi leaves.
Other senior safety fixes in one visit
- Stair handrails added or tightened, on both sides where the stairs allow
- Loose railings and wobbly stair treads fixed
- Lever door handles in place of round knobs
- Raised toilet seats and shower seats fitted
- Thresholds and transitions that catch a foot made flush
How much does grab bar installation cost in Atlanta?
It depends on how many bars, the wall (tile, drywall or fiberglass) and whether blocking has to go in behind the wall.
Small jobs like this usually fit inside a Honey-Do Day: $350 for a half day (4 hours) or $600 for a full day (8 hours), and the rest of your list can go in the same visit.
Every price depends on the job and can change once Ramzi sees it. Text Ramzi a few photos for the final price, agreed before any work starts. Estimates are free.
Handyman jobs only: small fixes, adjustments and installs like mounting a TV, fixing a sticky door, hanging shelves and furniture assembly. These rates are for one person working alone. If the job needs more than one person, the price will change.
