Step 1: framing
Every new wall starts with straight framing. Here a new wall and doorway go up between a kitchen and a living room, and in a gutted room the old walls are opened down to the studs and joists. Straight, solid framing is what keeps the finished wall flat and stops cracks later.

Step 2: hanging and taping the drywall
Sheets go on the ceiling first, then the walls, screwed to every stud. Every joint is taped, and every screw head gets joint compound. That’s the patchwork of white stripes you see in these rooms.
Each coat is left to dry, then sanded. Two or three thin coats are what make the seams disappear once the paint goes on.

Opening a ceiling
Sometimes the drywall has to come down first: to reach plumbing or wiring, to fix water damage, or to change the layout. The ceiling is opened, the work above is done, and new drywall is hung, taped and finished to match the rest of the room.

Step 3: primer and paint
New drywall drinks paint, so it gets a primer coat first. Then two coats of finish paint. Done right, nobody can tell where the old wall ends and the new one begins.

How much does drywall installation cost in Atlanta?
It depends on the size of the room, ceiling height, how many corners and openings there are, and whether painting is included. Send a few photos and the rough size of the room, and you’ll get a price agreed before any work begins. Estimates are free.
