What kinds of drywall damage can be repaired?
Almost all of it. The common repairs in Atlanta homes:
- Holes, from nail holes to doorknob holes and fist-size damage
- Cracks over doors and windows and along ceiling seams
- Nail pops: small round bumps where a nail has worked loose
- Water stains and water-damaged ceilings
- Dents, scrapes, torn paper and damaged corners
- Holes left after plumbing, electrical or cable work
Small holes and nail pops
Nail and screw holes, anchor holes from old shelves and nail pops are the quickest fix. Each one is reset or filled, sanded smooth and painted.
On their own they rarely justify a visit. Grouped with the rest of your list, they cost very little.
How do you fix a hole in drywall?
Larger holes, like a doorknob hole or a damaged corner, need a proper patch. The process:
- Cut the damaged area back to a clean square
- Fit a new piece of drywall, with wood backing behind it, or a backed patch for medium holes
- Tape the joints and apply joint compound in thin coats
- Sand each coat smooth and match the wall texture
- Prime and paint so the patch blends in
Joint compound has to dry between coats, so a good patch can take more than one visit. Rushing it is why some repairs still show.
Why does drywall crack over doors and windows?
Diagonal cracks at the corners of doors and windows are common as a house moves with the seasons. They are opened up, taped and finished so they don’t simply crack again in the same place.
Wide cracks, doors that suddenly stop closing or floors that have started to slope can mean a structural issue. Ramzi will tell you if it needs a structural engineer before anything is quoted.
What do I do about a water-stained ceiling?
A water stain means water got in. The leak has to be fixed first, by a plumber or roofer if needed, or the stain comes back. Once it’s dry, soft or crumbling drywall is cut out and replaced, and the ceiling is sealed with a stain-blocking primer before painting.
A ceiling that is sagging with water can come down. Keep people out of the room and call the same day.
Can you match the texture on my walls?
Yes. Smooth walls, orange peel and knockdown are all matched as part of the repair, so the patch doesn’t stand out once it’s painted.
Should drywall be repaired or replaced?
Repaired, in most cases. Replacement makes sense when the board is wet, moldy, sagging or damaged across most of the wall.
How much does drywall repair cost in Atlanta?
It depends on how many patches, how large they are, the texture and how much painting follows.
Several patches usually fit into a Honey-Do Day: $350 for a half day (4 hours) or $600 for a full day (8 hours). Larger rooms or whole ceilings are quoted as a project.
Every price depends on the job and can change once Ramzi sees it. Text Ramzi a few photos for the final price, agreed before any work starts. Estimates are free.
Handyman jobs only: small fixes, adjustments and installs like mounting a TV, fixing a sticky door, hanging shelves and furniture assembly. These rates are for one person working alone. If the job needs more than one person, the price will change.
What drywall repair doesn’t include
Fixing the leak behind a water stain, moving wiring or plumbing inside the wall, and structural repairs are separate jobs. If your repair needs any of them, Ramzi will tell you upfront, before anything is quoted.
