Why does my door stick in the summer?
Wood swells in humid weather, and Atlanta summers are humid. A door that closes fine in January can rub in July. Before anything is planed off, the hinges are checked: a loose hinge screw lets the door drop and rub at the top corner, and tightening it or using a longer screw into the frame often fixes it for good.
If the door really is too big, it’s planed where it rubs and the bare edge is sealed or painted, so it doesn’t soak up moisture and swell again.
Door won’t latch?
When the latch misses the hole in the frame, the door or the frame has moved a little. The fix is usually adjusting the hinges or moving the strike plate, the metal plate on the frame, so the latch catches again.
Common door repairs
- Sticking, rubbing and sagging doors
- Loose hinges and stripped screw holes
- Latches and strike plates that don’t line up
- New knobs, levers, deadbolts and hinges
- Sliding closet doors off their track
- Damaged trim and door casing
- Exterior door repair and replacement
Exterior doors
Exterior doors get the most sun and rain. Ramzi repairs and replaces exterior doors, and seals them with fresh weatherstripping and a door sweep. A heavy exterior door can need two people to hang, and that changes the price.
How much does door repair cost in Atlanta?
It depends on the door, what’s causing the problem, and whether new hardware or a whole new door is needed.
Small jobs like this usually fit inside a Honey-Do Day: $350 for a half day (4 hours) or $600 for a full day (8 hours), and the rest of your list can go in the same visit.
Every price depends on the job and can change once Ramzi sees it. Text Ramzi a few photos for the final price, agreed before any work starts. Estimates are free.
Handyman jobs only: small fixes, adjustments and installs like mounting a TV, fixing a sticky door, hanging shelves and furniture assembly. These rates are for one person working alone. If the job needs more than one person, the price will change.
