Studs or anchors: what holds a heavy mirror?
Anything heavy goes into a stud or into an anchor rated well above its weight. Light frames can hang on picture hooks; a large mirror or a loaded shelf can’t. Ramzi finds the studs first and plans the layout around them where he can.
Older intown homes often have plaster walls instead of drywall. Plaster cracks if it’s drilled the wrong way, so it gets the right bit, the right anchor and a slower hand.
How do you get a gallery wall right?
The layout is planned on the floor or with paper templates on the wall first, so you see it before any holes go in. Then everything is hung to a shared center line, which is what makes a gallery wall look planned instead of scattered.
