What size is your hole?
The size of the hole decides the repair:
- Small, up to about a nickel: nail and screw holes, old anchors. Filled with compound, sanded and painted
- Medium, up to a few inches: doorknob holes, outlet cut-outs. A backed patch or mesh patch, then coats of compound
- Large, bigger than a hand: cut back to a clean square and a new piece of drywall screwed in, with wood backing behind it
How is a large hole in drywall patched?
- The damaged area is cut back to a clean square or rectangle
- Wood backing goes in behind the opening so the new piece has something solid to screw into
- A new piece of drywall the same thickness is cut to fit and screwed in
- The seams are taped and covered with thin coats of joint compound, feathered out wide
- Each coat dries, then is sanded smooth
- The texture is matched, then the patch is primed and painted
Why does my old patch still show?
Three usual reasons: the compound was put on in one thick coat that shrank as it dried, the edges weren’t feathered out wide enough, or the patch was painted without primer, so it soaked up the paint differently. Thin coats, wide edges and primer are what make a patch invisible.
Can a patch be done in one visit?
Small holes, yes. Larger patches need each coat of compound to dry before the next one, so they can take a second visit or a longer day. Grouping several patches together is the best value: one visit, every hole done.
How much does drywall patch repair cost in Atlanta?
Most patch jobs fit inside a Honey-Do Day: $350 for a half day (4 hours) or $600 for a full day (8 hours). Several holes in different rooms usually go in the same day.
Every price depends on the job and can change once Ramzi sees it. Text Ramzi a few photos for the final price, agreed before any work starts. Estimates are free.
Handyman jobs only: small fixes, adjustments and installs like mounting a TV, fixing a sticky door, hanging shelves and furniture assembly. These rates are for one person working alone. If the job needs more than one person, the price will change.
